YAK or the Giant statue in The Temple of Emerald Buddha (Wat Pra-keaw) has been the guardians of the gate protecting Thai Buddhist temple since 14th century. 

They often appear in highly ornated costume, typically with bulging eyes, fangs and holding swords.
